Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Undo the effects of time to achieve a brighter, well-rested expression.
SCOTTSDALE, AZ
Our eyes can show signs of aging before other parts of our face, making eyelid surgery by Dr. Saba Ghorab, a top blepharoplasty surgeon in Scottsdale, a simple and yet highly effective procedure.
Over time, the skin and soft tissue layers that support and maneuver the eye and eyelid can stretch and sag. Also, puffiness around the eye area can occur as orbital fat pads bulge through these stretched layers. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, reduces the look of skin folds, puffiness, and/or wrinkles in the eyelid and under eye areas, without compromising eye health and function.
Usually performed in under an hour with stunningly natural results, Dr. Ghorab custom-tailors eyelid surgery in Scottsdale based on individual needs. She is accomplished in working with patients of varying eye shapes and sizes, so you can be assured that you’ll attain a naturally refreshed look that doesn’t diminish your sense of identity.
What Can Eyelid Surgery Help With?
You could be a candidate for a blepharoplasty if you experience:
-
- Wrinkles and creases around the eyes
- Bags and puffiness around the eyes (periorbital fat herniation)
- Hooded and drooping eyelids with loose, redundant skin (dermatochalasis)
- Obstructed vision or skin irritation due to loose folds of skin
- Asian ancestry with desire to create a double eyelid or defined crease
Preserving Your Individuality
Dr. Ghorab customizes a blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery to create the refreshed look that’s desired while still preserving the look of individual ethnic heritages.
She tailors each eyelid surgery to your specific eye shape and concerns.

Upper Blepharoplasty
Excess skin, fat deposits, and underlying muscle shapes and sizes can all be potential causes of upper eyelid heaviness or drooping.
With a Scottsdale upper eyelid lift, Dr. Ghorab skillfully adjusts and re-positions these soft tissue layers to open up the eyes for a brighter and more youthful expression. The incisions are placed in the natural creases of the eyelids, providing excellent camouflaging and fading over time.
Upper eyelid surgery is often combined with lower eyelid surgery, brow lift, or facelift for a full face rejuvenation.
Lower Blepharoplasty
Scottsdale lower blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is best for addressing lower lid sagging, puffiness, and/or fine lines and wrinkles.
Depending on your unique situation and eye shape, Dr. Ghorab may make an incision just below the lash line (subciliary or transcutaneous blepharoplasty) or on the inside of the eyelid (transconjunctival blepharoplasty) to target your concerns.
Lower blepharoplasty is often combined with upper blepharoplasty, facelift, and/or skin resurfacing.
Asian Double Eyelid Surgery
Asian double eyelid surgery is an upper blepharoplasty to create upper eyelid creases with or without modification of naturally occurring epicentral folds. Dr. Ghorab will work closely with you to determine your desired upper eyelid shape, size, and configuration. This allows for natural, lasting results that look authentically you, ethnically appropriate, and harmonious with the rest of your face.
In addition to creating well-defined eyelid creases, a Scottsdale double eyelid surgery removes excess skin and soft tissues of the upper eyelids for bigger and brighter eyes.
Functional Eyelid Surgery
Functional upper eyelid lift may be a great solution with lasting effects if excess, loose upper lid skin partially obstructs vision, causes difficulty with wearing glasses or contacts, or results in skin irritation from skin folds rubbing together.
A canthopexy or canthoplasty is indicated for lower lid laxity caused by weakening or stretching of the lower lid muscle and tendon. The procedure tightens the lower eyelid to improve lid position and prevent issues with tear production and eye health.
Ptosis correction surgery addresses low-lying lids that cause eye asymmetry or impaired vision. The Mueller muscle of the upper eyelid is repositioned and tightened, for a wider, more awake look bilaterally.

Anesthesia
Eyelid surgery is performed using a combination of local and twilight anesthesia. Our minimally invasive anesthesia protocol provides excellent surgical outcomes while patients are comfortably sedated and still breathing on their own. Our patients are relieved to learn this and report having an easier and faster recovery!
Post-Anesthesia Recovery
After the procedure, patients are monitored in our cozy and relaxing recovery room. Once awake and doing well, patients are taken home by their designated caretaker. A custom aftercare plan is provided and follow-up scheduled.

Recovery After Eyelid Surgery
Most patients enjoy a quick and easy recovery following blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery. We place great emphasis on postoperative follow-up care, ensuring you are closely monitored for optimal healing.
Pain Control
The discomfort is typically mild and well-controlled with over-the-counter pain medications only.
Swelling, Bruising, & Bleeding
Some periorbital or eyelid swelling and bruising are expected for the first week after surgery, but improve quickly thereafter.
Serious bleeding and hematoma (blood clot) formation are rare and often related to unique patient characteristics.
Eye Irritation
Irritation and redness of the sclera (white of the eyes) may occur, making it important to avoid direct sun exposure and to wear dark-tinted sunglasses for about 1 week after surgery.
The eyes may tear excessively or feel dry, both of which are temporary and resolve over time.
Time Off
Following eyelid surgery, we recommend 1 week off to hunker down for R&R. Some patients feel comfortable going out and about within days of surgery whereas others prefer to wait.
Suture Removal
Skin sutures, if used, are removed 1 week after surgery.
Activity
Strenuous activities should be avoided for 2 weeks after surgery.
Follow-Up
Routine follow-up visits are scheduled, starting within 1 week after surgery and for up to one full year, to monitor progress and ensure good healing.
