Dermal Filler Injection

Smooth and plump the face to achieve a naturally refreshed look without surgery.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ

Skin aging is a complex biological process caused by internal and external factors that lead to loss of skin collagen, elasticity, and moisture. Over time, this manifests as visible signs of skin thinning, wrinkling, and dryness. To address these concerns, Dr. Saba Ghorab offers facial dermal filler injections to revive the plump and radiant qualities of the skin, creating a naturally youthful and rejuvenated look.

Beyond reversing signs of facial aging, soft tissue fillers are excellent for augmenting or improving the shape or fullness of various facial features. Filler materials can be injected just about anywhere in the face — where additional volume is desired or needed to improve the overall balance, symmetry, and aesthetics of the face. Facial fillers are most commonly used to smooth skin wrinkles, plump up the lips, enhance the cheeks, contour the jawlines, project the chin, and fill depressions or defects.

The ability to refresh your appearance without the need for surgery makes soft tissue or dermal filler injection a popular choice in Scottsdale! At Saba Plastic Surgery, Dr. Ghorab performs injections with aesthetic precision and results you can see real time.

What Can Dermal Filler Injection Help With?

      • Soften the nasolabial folds or smile lines
      • Plump the lips or smooth vertical lip lines
      • Smooth marionette lines or chin wrinkles
      • Fill acne scars
      • Improve skin quality for a youthful radiance
      • Rejuvenate and enhance your natural beauty without surgery

What is Dermal Filler?

Dermal, or soft tissue, filler is a safe, sterile injectable material used for rejuvenating and volumizing the face, neck, and other areas.

Dermal fillers are used to fill or efface wrinkles and fine lines, improve contour defects or depressions, and enhance facial/lip volume. Dermal filler injection provides an immediate one to one correction.

While there are many types of fillers available, the most popular options with consistently good results are hyaluronic acid-based fillers as well as longer-lasting materials such as calcium hydroxyapatite fillers (Radiesse®) that have the added benefit of stimulating collagen synthesis over time.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring gel-like substance in the human skin that plays a vital role in combating or reversing signs of skin aging.

HA has the ability to bind and retain water molecules. This unique water-pulling property is hydrating for the skin and has a ‘cushioning’ effect that helps skin look supple and full.

The natural aging process and other external factors cause the skin’s HA to get depleted over time, contributing to the skin dryness that is visible with age.

Hyaluronic Acid-Based Fillers

Given its hydrating and volumizing effects, hyaluronic acid (HA) is the preferred ingredient for the latest cosmetic dermal filler injectables in the US market.

Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, like the Juvederm® and Restylane® line of products, are made up of a synthetic, non-animal HA that is produced through bacterial fermentation. It is then processed for sterile injection into the human body.

HA-based dermal fillers are injected under the skin to mimic our naturally occurring HA, which gets depleted over time. The cosmetic results are soft and natural-looking, and feel like one’s own tissue.

How is Filler Injection Performed?

Dermal filler injection is customized for every patient, depending on his or her needs. The procedure takes about 20 to 30 minutes to perform, and patients can return to their daily routine with minimal restrictions.

For comfort during treatment, topical or locally injected anesthetic medications may be used. Once adequate numbing is achieved, dermal fillers are injected under the skin using fine needles or cannulas. Dr. Ghorab ensures harmony of the overall facial features as she skillfully improves the appearance of the treatment area(s). She is keen on showing you the progress each step of the way, to best achieve your desired look.

A facial dermal filler injection may be performed as a singular procedure or as an adjunct to a surgical or non-surgical cosmetic procedure such as botulinum toxin injection.

Earlobe Filler Injection

Earlobe soft tissue filler injection helps to smooth fine lines and plump up deflated, sagging earlobes.  The results are immediately noticeable, with a more youthful and supple appearance of the earlobes. There is minimal swelling or bruising afterwards.

Earlobe soft tissue filler injection has outstanding results, as a standalone procedure or in combination with a surgical earlobe repair, facelift, or neck lift.

Lip Filler Injection

Lip augmentation with a dermal filler injection is one of the most popular facial aesthetic treatments in the US! The desire to smooth and plump naturally thin, deflated, or aged lips is shared by people across all age groups.

Lip filler injections are performed in clinic by Dr. Ghorab. Topical anesthesia and/or a dental block may be used to make the experience comfortable and painless. The results are immediately noticeable, with beautiful plumping, lifting, and hydration of thin or deflated lips.

Unlike filler injections elsewhere, lip treatment may cause a flare-up in those with a history of cold sores or lip blisters. Discuss this with Dr. Ghorab, as you may need to take anti-viral medications to prevent a herpetic outbreak.

Lip filler injection has outstanding results, as a standalone procedure or in combination with a surgical lip lift.

Expected Post-treatment Effects

It is normal and expected to have some degree of post treatment redness, swelling, bleeding, bruising, or discomfort. These side effects are generally minor and resolve quickly.

Discomfort

Any mild tenderness or pain at the injection sites can be treated with over the counter pain medications.

3

Swelling & Bruising

Swelling and bruising, if any, can last 7 – 10 days or longer. Certain areas, such as the lips, are prone to more swelling and bruising whereas other areas, like the cheeks, may feel tender but don’t look noticeably swollen or bruised. The affected areas may be iced to help alleviate symptoms.

4

To help minimize the risk of bruising and bleeding, strenuous activities should be avoided until the next day.

How Long Does Dermal Filler Last?

The results of soft tissue dermal filler injections are long-lasting, but not permanent.

The plumping and volumizing effects of dermal fillers last up to one year or longer. The duration may be shorter or longer, depending on the filler product as well as individual anatomy, genetics, lifestyle, or other unique factors. With repeated treatments, less filler material may be needed.

Maintenance injections are generally recommended every 6 to 12 months or whenever a touch-up injection is desired to maintain a certain fullness or correction.

FAQ: Dermal Filler Injection

The age to start injectables is variable, depending on individual genetics, ethnicity, lifestyle, and health status.

Generally speaking, dermal filler injections are not recommended in children as there are no robust studies to on its safety in the pediatric population.

Dermal filler injection is generally not recommended for pregnant or lactating women or those with an allergy to filler ingredients such as lidocaine or gram-positive bacterial proteins.

Also, individuals with active skin infection or inflammation at the planned injection site(s) should postpone filler injection until the skin is healthy and inflammation-free.

It is helpful to avoid taking any medications or supplements known to increase the risk of bleeding and bruising for 7 to 10 days before an appointment for dermal filler injection. Blood-thinning agents include NSAIDs such as aspirin, gingko biloba, ginseng, garlic, and vitamin E, to name a few.

Looking puffy is never the goal!

Overuse or misuse of soft tissue fillers have a cumulative effect over time, with progressive distortion or alteration of normal and aesthetically-pleasing facial features. Dr. Ghorab has a “less is more” approach and is happy to see you for a touch-up injection than to give you an overdone, puffy look.

At Saba Plastic Surgery, we pride ourselves in delivering natural results that are revitalizing without compromising your authenticity.

“One must be intentional when undergoing any facial aesthetic procedure, taking care to do only that which ensures facial aesthetic harmony.”
